A bit of frustration
11/8/20242 min read
Bit of a strange day today. Normally, when I wake up and get going, I’m motivated and alert. But today wasn’t one of those days. The morning started off well enough: I went on my walk, had a productive train of thought, and began crafting a plan for the day. I even made a quick trip to the store for a few essentials. But as soon as I got back and caught up on some emails, things took a turn for the worse.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I run a few YouTube channels (or maybe I haven’t), and for the past three weeks, I've been going back and forth with one of my server suppliers' tech support teams to resolve an issue. Today, they finally got back to me with a supposed solution. But it was essentially just a mirrored version of the problem. In other words, the issue still existed—they had just integrated it into a functioning part. This might sound a bit convoluted, so here’s the full story. If it gets boring, feel free to head back to the main site.
One of my channels features sleep sounds, like white noise or campfire crackles. I decided to switch providers for a better price—who doesn’t love saving a bit of money, right? The easiest way to set up my content is to use separate looping audio and video files. The new provider only offered video, so I flagged this issue to them. The process involves looping a 15-second video file and pairing it with a separate four-hour MP3 audio loop. When you play them together, you create a seamless 24-hour live stream.
Of course, this setup falls apart if there’s no audio. After countless email exchanges, I sat down and essentially wrote an essay and recorded a video tutorial to explain the problem and how to fix it. They replied, “Ok, we got you.” Did they really? Nope. They ended up producing a music video as their “solution,” despite my repeated explanations that this approach was illogical. My method would use about 1.5 gigabytes, while theirs would take up 50 gigabytes. It made no sense! Sorry if I lost you with the tech jargon; I’m not always the best storyteller.
Anyway, after all that effort, the problem remained unresolved, and the frustration put me in that mood. The day ended with a lengthy argument to secure a refund, which felt like a fitting conclusion to this ordeal.
Dealing with that mess took up most of my day. Afterward, I cooked dinner, ate, and relaxed for a while. I tried to get back to work on some other projects, but the motivation just wasn’t there. That’s when I decided to create a blog page on this site, instead of just posting updates on the main page, to share how my days unfold.
I’ll be prepping for a shower soon and then winding down for bed. I hope your day is going better than mine and that you’re not dealing with, well, there’s no polite way to put it—idiots.
Ciao for now.
If you just want to stay in the loop...
Shoot your email down below. I think these will go out automatically. Please be patient as the site updates.
